The Trading Schemes Regulations notice
The wording below is prescribed by Schedule 1 to the Trading Schemes Regulations 1997 (SI 1997/30) and is reproduced exactly. It is not paraphrased and it is not summarised.
The prescribed wording
Trading Schemes Regulations 1997, Schedule 1
It is illegal for a promoter or a participant in a trading scheme to persuade anyone to make a payment by promising benefits from getting others to join a scheme.
Do not be misled by claims that high earnings are easily achieved.

Where the law requires it
Regulation 3(1)(c) requires this wording to appear in an advertisement that could lead someone to become a participant in a trading scheme. It must not sit at the very beginning or the very end, it must be easily legible, it must be given no less prominence than any other information apart from the heading, and where the advertisement says anything about what participants can earn it must appear together with that information and be given no less prominence than it.
That is why the warning on this site sits inside the same panel as the earnings figure, at the same size, rather than in a footnote. It is also why it appears on the opportunity page beside the money rather than only here.
Regulation 3(1)(a) also requires the name and address of the promoter, which is why the footer of every page carries both.
This page and its placement should be reviewed by a solicitor before go-live. It is included out of caution: no authority was found that settles whether Utility Warehouse is within the Regulations, and Utility Warehouse’s own pages do not carry the warning.
